Safety

At Eagle Pass Heliskiing, safety is always our first priority.

Best Pratices.

Eagle Pass Heliskiing is a member of Heli Cat Canada, a professional association for Helicopter Skiing operators in British Columbia. This association sets a wide range of operating and safety standards to which operators in Canada must comply.

Guides.

We adhere to the HeliCat Canada’s world-renowned guiding standards, and the guides at Eagle Pass Heliskiing are all certified and meet or exceed the qualification requirements of our industry’s professional association. They are professionally certified by one of the following organizations; the Canadian Ski Guides Association (CSGA), the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG), or the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA). All guides are experienced in avalanche forecasting, advanced first aid, mountain and avalanche rescue.

Eagle Pass Heliskiing hires guides based on the combination of their mountain skills and abilities, their professional qualifications and experience, their zest and love of the mountains and their enthusiasm for showing guests the best possible heliskiing and riding possible.

Info Sharing.

Eagle Pass Heliskiing has a comprehensive Risk Management Program and Rescue Plan in place with regards to skiing and flying. We are in daily contact with the Canadian Avalanche Association and neighboring Heliskiing and Snowcat skiing operations, and EPH takes part in the industry’s ‘InfoEx” program which provides a daily exchange of technical snow, weather and avalanche information for subscribers. Our guides continually evaluate conditions with field tests and observations, as well as information from other area snow professionals.

Snowpulse and Avy Rescue.

Our Snowpulse System

Our Snowpulse System

Eagle Pass Heliskiing provides each client with a “SnowPulse” backpack flotation device. The SnowPulse is intended to keep you above the snow’s surface in the event of a slide, as well as provide support and protection to your neck and head.  Within each pack are avalanche rescue equipment and a radio.  The radio gives the ability to contact the guide, pilot or lodge in the case of an emergency. We are one of only three local operators offering guests this kind of state-of-the-art equipment.

All our guests are required to attend and participate in a heliskiing safety briefing,  avalanche transceiver and SnowPulse training exercise prior to skiing/boarding.

Helicopters.

Eagle Pass Helicopter Skiing is pleased to have Arrow Helicopters of Revelstoke as our aircraft provider. All of Arrow Helicopter’s pilots are highly experienced in winter mountain flying and heliskiing in BC, and the area around Revelstoke.

We fly with the powerful and comfortable Aerospatiale (A-Star) helicopters which are ideal for small group helicopter skiing. This helicopter seats four guests on a bench seat in the back. Everyone faces forward and there is plenty of leg room and great visibility for everyone.

Communications.

EPH Radio Repeater, Mt English, 9,000’

At Eagle Pass Heliskiing, we strive to be as up to date as possible with safety protocols and technologies. For this reason each and every guest is provided a radio. With this they can communicate with any one of the guides, the helicopter, the lodge, and the Revelstoke based office. We have found that having each guest carrying a radio gives that extra level of safety and confidence, and that it also can make daily operations that much more efficient.

The Lead Guide and helicopters are also equipped with satellite telephones to enable communications with the outside world from anywhere within our mountain wilderness. The base and office also monitor the ongoing progress of the helicopter by a satellite tracking system.
