Our Terrain
The Location
Eagle Pass Helicopter Skiing lies in the heart of the best helicopter skiing in Canada–the Monashee Mountains. The exclusive area encompasses over 270,000 acres of British Columbia wilderness. The terrain of Eagle Pass Heliskiing is nestled in between the three original and largest heliski operations in the province of BC.
Isolated, glaciated and magnificent.
The Snow
Our area is known for remarkably deep snow. Because the west slope of the Monashees is the first mountainous area east of BC’s Coast Mountains, we get near-coastal amounts of snow with cooler interior temperatures resulting in the incredibly deep dry powder that heliskiers return for.
This high quality snow, coupled with perfectly spaced trees, open bowls and glaciers of the Monashees result in what many experienced heliskiers consider being the most exciting deep powder helicopter skiing in the world. Just ask anyone who has been here, watch a ski film or read a magazine. The Monashees are truly in a class all their own.
The Nearby Terrain
At Eagle Pass Helicopter Skiing we have close to 30 classic tree runs within a five-minute flight of the lodge. The proximity of this terrain is a great advantage to our guests during periods of heavy snowfall as it allows for very few operational ‘down days’ during our season—a factor that can lead to disappointment at many operations. Historically we average just 3-4 down days per 100 day heli-ski season.
The Trees
The Monashee Range is famous for its tree skiing, and at Eagle Pass Heliskiing, we have discovered huge slopes of naturally well-spaced trees that are perfect for heli-skiing and heli-boarding. Here, the snow is protected from both wind and sun and any experienced heliskier will tell you that this is where the best snow is often found. Gliding at speed through continuous openings between 120-foot tall spruce and alpine firs or through massive, 800 year-old cedars is a magical experience that stays with you for a lifetime. Our guests also rave about the many runs they take through burnt forests. The magical contrast between the white crystalline powder and the burnt black trees is remarkable.
During stormy weather, we spend much of our time heliskiing and riding these amazing forests. At Eagle Pass Heliskiing we have a variety of treed terrain to suit all skiers, from gentle cruisers to the steep, deep and challenging.
